How to Apply for a Thailand Guardian Visa for Your Children

Each child holding a valid ED (Education) Visa can sponsor exactly one parent for a Guardian Visa. This is the core 1-Child-Per-Guardian Rule that governs the entire process.

The Specifics

• One ED Visa holder (your child) sponsors one Guardian Visa holder (one parent). If you have multiple children on ED visas, both parents can qualify for Guardian Visas.
• For the initial Non-O Guardian Visa you apply at a Thai embassy or consulate abroad. It is granted for 90 days. You must remain in the country where you submit the application until it is approved.
• To extend the visa inside Thailand, you must show 500,000 THB in a Thai bank account held for at least the last 3 months, or an income of more than 40,000 THB per month over the last 12 months.
• For the very first application you may show funds in a foreign bank account. All extensions require the funds to be in a Thai bank.
• Both parents must attend the immigration office together with the children when applying for any extension.
• Required documents include: your passport biodata page, child’s birth certificate (if you are not married to the other parent), passport pages showing the children’s immigration stamps, 4x6 cm photos of the children, parents’ TM30 forms, the family rental agreement, the child’s TM30 file for the address section, and complete bank statements for the last 3 months showing the required balance. Bring all originals to every appointment.
• Marriage certificates must be in English or Thai. Legalization is not included in our service fee.
