What the Canada visitor visa is
The Temporary Resident Visa is Canada's general visitor visa, covering tourism, visiting family and friends, and business meetings. It allows a stay of up to 6 months per entry, with the exact period decided by the border officer when you arrive. Multiple entry visas are commonly issued, often valid until shortly before your passport expires.
Your visa allows you to travel to a Canadian port of entry and ask to enter. The border officer makes the final admission decision and sets your stay, so validity and permitted stay are two different things.
The application fee is CAD 100 per person, with biometrics a further CAD 85 where required, valid for 10 years once given. Everything is decided on the documents, with no interview to add context afterwards.
You cannot work on a visitor visa, and study is limited to short courses.

- Families travelling together, where relationship documents form part of the file.
The thing to understand about the Canadian process is what the officer is actually weighing: your connections to home. This is not a wealth test. A middle income applicant with a long held job, a mortgage and school age children presents a very clear picture, and that picture is what the file needs to show.
Documents required
The last section below is the one applicants most often under-prepare and the one officers weigh most heavily, so it is where we concentrate. One connection documented properly does more than five mentioned in passing.
Everyone
- Passport, and your previous passport if you have one.
- Digital photograph to specification.
- National ID card.
- Bank statements, bank certificate and payslips.
- Investment documents, if available.

Proof of occupation
- Employees. Employment letter, employment contract where available, leave approval letter and tax documents.
- Business owners and self employed. Business registration, business licence where available, company financial documents and company bank statements.
- Students. Letter of enrolment and student ID.
- Retired applicants. Pension or investment income evidence.
- No standard certificate available. A written explanation of your occupation and income. We prepare this with you.
Proof of connections to Thailand
- Employment. Not just a job, but a long held one, with approved leave and a date you are expected back.
- Property. A title deed or a mortgage in your name.
- Family. A spouse, children in school, or dependent parents here.
- Business. A registered company you actively run, with financial records showing it trading.
- Financial roots. Long running accounts, regular salary deposits and investments held in Thailand.
Additional
- Letter of invitation, where you are visiting family or friends or attending business.
- Your host's passport or permanent resident card, and proof of your relationship with them.
- For foreign residents of Thailand, your Thai visa, work or business evidence, lease and local banking, alongside anything you still hold in your home country.
Financial requirements
Canada publishes no fixed minimum. Your funds need to cover the trip comfortably and sit consistently with the income you have declared. Where the money came from carries as much weight as how much there is.
Because the decision is made on paper, proof of funds has to be presented so the officer can see income arriving and accumulating over time rather than just a closing balance. A large recent deposit is fine when it is documented, and we tell you exactly what will evidence its source.
If family in Canada are paying for your trip, that does not weaken your case. Include the invitation letter, their status in Canada, proof of your relationship and their financial evidence, and documented sponsorship becomes a strength.

6. My family in Canada will pay for my trip. Does that weaken my case?
No. Documented sponsorship is a strength. Include their invitation, their status in Canada, proof of your relationship and their financial evidence, and it is entirely normal.
7. Can I visit the USA on the same trip?
Only with a separate US visa. Canada and the USA have entirely separate systems and neither visa admits you to the other. If your trip covers both, we run the applications in parallel.
8. What if I was refused before?
The officer's actual reasoning is recorded and can be obtained. Send us what you have and we will guide you through getting the rest, then build the new file around evidencing that specific point.
9. How long does processing take?
It varies with the season and with volumes. Starting two to three months before your travel date gives room for the biometrics appointment and any additional request.
10. Can I work in Canada on this visa?
No. If work is the goal, that is a different application and we will point you to the right category.
11. I am a foreigner living in Thailand. Can I apply from here?
Yes, with legal long stay status. Your Thai visa, work or business, lease and local banking become the evidence of your connections here, alongside anything you still hold in your home country.
