Do you need a visa?
Not for a holiday. American passport holders enter Thailand without a visa and stay up to 30 days under Thailand's visa exemption scheme. You can ask immigration for one extension of 30 days once you are here, which takes you to 60 days.
You do need a visa if you want to stay longer than that, or if you are coming to work, study, retire or join family. Those routes are below.

The honorary consulate cannot issue your visa
Thailand has an honorary consulate in Coral Gables, Florida and Houston, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana. It is easy to find and easy to mistake for the real thing. It cannot issue visas, Thai passports, ID cards or certificates, and it cannot authenticate documents. Do not send your application or your documents there.
Coral Gables, Florida: Ms. Maria D. Sariol, Honorary Consul-General · 2525 Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Suite 300, Coral Gables, FL 33134, USA · +1 305 445 7577 ext. 2 · [email protected].
Houston, Texas: Mr. Charles C. Foster, Honorary Consul-General · 3 Greenway Plaza, Suite 800, Houston, TX 77046, USA · +1 713 335 3995 · [email protected].
New Orleans, Louisiana: Mr. Mark C. Romig, Honorary Consul · New Orleans & Company, 2020 Saint Charles Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130, USA · [email protected].
Longer stays
If 30 days is not enough, these are the routes American passport holders use most.
