The DTV visa must be applied for outside Thailand and normally takes two to four weeks to process after you submit documents through the Thai e-Visa portal.

The Specifics

• You apply at a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate outside Thailand and must remain in that country until the visa is approved or refused.
• Common application locations include Laos, Vietnam, or the Royal Thai Embassy in Jakarta for Indonesian applicants.
• Processing time is usually 10-15 business days but can range from 2 hours to 3-4 weeks, or occasionally longer, depending on the embassy and timing.
• You must show a personal bank balance of at least 500,000 Baht (or equivalent) that has been maintained for three consecutive months before application. The account must be in your name.
• For the workcation / remote worker category you also need: valid passport (at least 6 months validity), recent photo, proof of current location, and usually evidence that your activity or program lasts at least 6 months.
• Spouses and unmarried children under 20 may apply as dependents but each person submits a separate application.
• The DTV is a 5-year multiple-entry visa. To extend for each 180-day period inside Thailand you must present an updated bank statement showing the 500,000 Baht balance.
